host information
Members may volunteer to host a wine tasting by choosing a month and signing up with our Chapter Chairperson.
Monthly tastings are normally held the fourth Sunday of each month beginning at 3:30 p.m. in members’ homes or at another location suitable for tastings in the Perkiomen Valley region. If you are a member interested in organizing and conducting a wine tasting, see the information below. |
Select a theme

Select a theme and date, and inform the Chapter Chairperson.
If you need help selecting a theme, contact our Chairperson, check out ideas on the AWS website under the Education tab, or search online. |
purchase wines
|
Purchase your wines and save your receipts(**) for reimbursement.
We traditionally serve 5 different wines at each tasting – one bottle will serve approximately 12 people, however you should purchase 3 bottles of each wine to cover pouring for unexpected guests, and possibly a spoiled bottle of wine. You will be reimbursed for the wines used. Any extra unopened bottles can be offered for sale to the members if you choose. There is no rule regarding the cost per bottle; however if your average per-bottle-cost is $17 or more, or you want to serve more than 5 wines, you must discuss this ahead of time with the Chairperson to determine if our tasting fee (presently $20 per person) should be raised in order to cover reimbursement. (**) Give receipts to our Chapter Treasurer the day of the tasting for reimbursement. NOTE ABOUT ATTENDANCE: We average 16 members at a monthly tasting. |
provide food
glasses
|
You will be reimbursed for food up to $85. You must provide receipts for reimbursement to the Treasurer on the day of tasting to be reimbursed that day.
Serve a selection of cheeses, crackers, bread, fruit and appetizers/dishes that go well with your wines to cleanse the palate between wines and to avoid drinking on an empty stomach. Remember you’re only providing a food tasting, not a meal. All guests are asked to bring their own glass to the tastings. The standard AWS glasses will be available in case a guest forgets to bring their own.
